“I did (да). Rather (несколько). Did I kill that fool of a constable (убил я того болвана констебля)?”

“No (нет),” said Kemp. “He’s expected to recover (говорят, он выздоровеет; to expect – ожидать; думать, полагать).”

“That’s his luck, then (ну, повезло ему: «его удача тогда»). I clean lost my temper, the fools (я совершенно вышел из себя: «потерял самообладание»; вот дураки)! Why couldn’t they leave me alone (почему они не оставили меня в покое)? And that grocer lout (а этот мужлан бакалейщик)?”

“There are no deaths expected (смертей не ожидается),” said Kemp.

“That’s his luck, then. I clean lost my temper, the fools! Why couldn’t they leave me alone? And that grocer lout?”

“There are no deaths expected,” said Kemp.

“I don’t know about that tramp of mine (не знаю насчет моего бродяги),” said the Invisible Man, with an unpleasant laugh (сказал Невидимка, неприятно посмеиваясь).

“By Heaven, Kemp, you don’t know what rage is (ей-богу, Кемп, вы не знаете, что такое ярость)!.. To have worked for years, to have planned and plotted (что такое работать долгие годы, задумывать, строить планы), and then to get some fumbling purblind idiot messing across your course (а потом какой-то неуклюжий тупой идиот портит все дело/спутывает карты: «а потом получить какого-то…»; to mess – производитьбеспорядок, портить)!.. Every conceivable sort of silly creature that has ever been created has been sent to cross me (все мыслимые типы дураков, какие только есть: «какие когда-либо были созданы», старались помешать мне: «были посланы помешать мне»; to cross – пересекать; противодействовать, противоречить; препятствовать).

“If I have much more of it (если так будет продолжаться: «если у меня этого будет больше»), I shall go wild – I shall start mowing ’em (я взбешусь и начну крушить: «косить» /направо и налево/).

“As it is, they’ve made things a thousand times more difficult (они и так в тысячу раз все усложнили).”

“No doubt it’s exasperating (несомненно, это невыносимо),” said Kemp, drily (сухо сказал Кемп).
