Rebecca had neither seen nor heard the retreat of the Templars, for she was locked in the embrace of her old father.

"Let us go (давай пойдем)," he said, "my dear daughter (моя дорогая дочь) – let us go and throw ourselves at the feet of that good young man (пойдем и бросимся в ноги тому доброму молодому человеку) who has just saved your life (который только что спас твою жизнь)."

«O no-no – no,» said Rebecca, "I do not dare to speak to him now (я не осмелюсь заговорить с ним сейчас). Together, they quickly left the lists of Templestowe.

The crowd shouted, «Long live Richard with the Lion's Heart, and down with the Templars!»

"What is the news from York?" Ivanhoe asked the knight who had arrested Malvoisin.

"Our enemies are already leaving the country," said the knight, "and we have that news from John himself!"

"That traitor (этот предатель)! That ungrateful traitor (этот неблагодарный предатель)!" exclaimed Ivanhoe. "Didn't Richard put him in prison (разве Ричард не посадил его в тюрьму; to put – класть, положить; помещать, устраивать)?"

"Oh! When they met (о, когда они встретились), it was as if they had met after a hunt (это произошло так, словно они встретились после охоты). "Oh! When they met, it was as if they had met after a hunt. The King just pointed at me and our army and said, 'You see, brother, I have some angry men with me. So you had better go back to our mother and stay there for a while'."

"That was all he said (это все, что он сказал)?" asked Ivanhoe, surprised (спросил Айвенго, удивленный).

"Yes. Let us return to York (давай вернемся в Йорк)," answered the knight, "for Richard will be punishing the traitors he has found (потому как Ричард будет наказывать предателей, которых он нашел; to find), even though he has forgiven their leader (даже если он простил их предводителя)!"

While Maurice de Bracy and Fitzurse escaped to France (в то время как Морис де Браси и Фицурс сбежали во Францию), Albert de Malvoisin and many other Norman noblemen were executed (Альберт де Мальвуазен и много других норманнских дворян были казнены; to execute – осуществлять, выполнять; казнить) on the orders of the King (по приказам короля). While Maurice de Bracy and Fitzurse escaped to France, Albert de Malvoisin and many other Norman noblemen were executed on the orders of the King. The King also ordered Cedric to come to York to help him get Saxon support there.

Cedric did not refuse because he saw (Седрик не возражал: «не отказался», потому что он видел; to refuse – отвергать, отказывать; отказываться) that Richard was a popular king (что Ричард был популярным королем; popular – народный; знаменитый, известный, популярный), and he had no more hope for a Saxon kingdom (и у него больше не было надежды на /возрождение/ саксонского королевства). After a few days in York with Richard (после нескольких дней, /проведенных/ в Йорке с Ричардом), Cedric finally agreed to the marriage of his ward to Ivanhoe (Седрик в конце концов согласился на брак его воспитанницы с Айвенго; marriage – брак, супружество; ward – опекунство, опека; опекаемый; подопечный). Cedric did not refuse because he saw that Richard was a popular king, and he had no more hope for a Saxon kingdom. After a few days in York with Richard, Cedric finally agreed to the marriage of his ward to Ivanhoe. He was secretly very proud of his son's adventures, and despite his feelings about the Normans, he soon became good friends with the King.

The wedding of Ivanhoe and Rowena was held in York a few days later, and it was attended by a large number of Saxons and Normans, including the King himself. Gurth appeared in the church in fine new clothes at the side of Ivanhoe, and Wamba arrived wearing a new hat with real silver bells on it. Everyone was happy that peace had finally returned to England.

On the second morning after this happy day (на второе утро = на утро второго дня после этого счастливого дня), the Lady Rowena was told (леди Ровене сообщили) that a young woman had come to see her (что какая-то молодая женщина пришла повидать ее). Rowena was wondering who this could be (Ровена удивилась, кто же это мог быть; to wonder – удивляться; интересоваться; желать знать), when a woman wearing a large veil entered (когда вошла женщина в большой = длинной вуали). On the second morning after this happy day, the Lady Rowena was told that a young woman had come to see her. Rowena was wondering who this could be, when a woman wearing a large veil entered. To Rowena's surprise, the stranger threw herself at her feet and kissed her dress.

"What does this mean (что это значит)?" asked Rowena. "Why are you doing this (почему вы это делаете)?"

"Because to you, Lady of Ivanhoe (потому что вам, леди Айвенго)," replied Rebecca, getting up again (ответила Ревекка, снова поднимаясь), "I can show how grateful I am to Wilfred of Ivanhoe (я могу показать, насколько я благодарна Уилфриду Айвенго). I am the unhappy Jewess (я та самая несчастная еврейка) for whom your husband risked his life (из-за которой ваш муж рисковал своей жизнью) against terrible odds in the lists at Templestowe (/сражаясь/ с ужасными, значительно превосходящими /его/ силами, на ристалище в Темплстоу; odds – шансы, вероятность; преимущество, перевес, превосходство /одной из сторон/)."

"Because to you, Lady of Ivanhoe," replied Rebecca, getting up again, "I can show how grateful I am to Wilfred of Ivanhoe. I am the unhappy Jewess for whom your husband risked his life against terrible odds in the lists at Templestowe."

«Rebecca,» said Rowena, "on that day, Wilfred only paid you back (в тот день Уилфрид только заплатил вам; to pay back – вознаграждать, отплачивать) one small part of what he owed you (одну маленькую часть того, что он должен вам; to owe – быть должным /кому-либо/, быть в долгу /перед кем-либо/) for healing his wounds (за исцеление его ран)! «Rebecca,» said Rowena, «on that day, Wilfred only paid you back one small part of what he owed you for healing his wounds! Speak, is there anything I can do for you?»

"Nothing," said Rebecca, calmly, "unless you will say goodbye to him for me."

"Are you leaving England (вы покидаете Англию)?" asked Rowena.

"My father has a brother in Spain (у моего отца брат в Испании). We will go there for peace and protection (мы уедем туда ради мира и защиты)."

«I do not doubt it,» said Rebecca, «but the people of England are a war-like race, always fighting with their neighbours and with each other. This is not a safe place for my people. So farewell. Before I go, I have one last wish, though. You are wearing your wedding veil. I would like to see the face that I have heard so much about.»

"I will remove my veil (я сниму свою вуаль) only if you will do the same (если вы сделаете то же самое; same – таким же образом, так же)," said Rowena.

They both took off their veils (они обе сняли свои вуали), and Rowena blushed deeply (и Ровена сильно покраснела; deeply – глубоко; крайне, очень, в высокой степени) when she saw Rebecca's face (когда она увидела лицо Ревекки). «I will remove my veil only if you will do the same,» said Rowena.

They both took off their veils, and Rowena blushed deeply when she saw Rebecca's face. Rebecca also blushed, but only briefly.

"I will always remember the face which you have just shown me," she said. "It is gentle and good. I will now leave you with my rescuer —"

Rebecca stopped as her eyes filled with tears (Ревекка замолчала, так как ее глаза наполнились слезами; to stop – останавливать; останавливаться, замолкать). "No, I am well, – I am well (нет, у меня все в порядке; well – здоровый; хороший, в удовлетворительном состоянии). Rebecca stopped as her eyes filled with tears.

"No, I am well, – I am well. Please accept this gift from me."

She gave Rowena a small box. Rowena opened the box and saw that it was filled with beautiful jewellery.

"It is impossible," she exclaimed. "I cannot accept such a valuable gift!"

"You keep it, my lady (оставьте их, миледи; to keep – держать, не отдавать; хранить)," said Rebecca. "Accept it – to me it has no value any more (примите их, для меня они больше не имеют ценности; value – ценность, важность; ценность, стоимость). I will never wear jewellery again (я больше никогда не буду носить ювелирные украшения)."

"Why, you are unhappy (как, вы несчастны)!" said Rowena. "Stay with us (оставайтесь с нами)!"

«No, my lady,» said Rebecca calmly (сказала Ревекка спокойно). "Farewell (прощайте). May He who made both Jews and Christians bless you (пусть Он, который создал и иудеев/евреев, и христиан, благословит вас; to make – делать, изготовлять; создавать, творить)."

She quickly left the room (она поспешно вышла из комнаты).

«You keep it, my lady,» said Rebecca. «Accept it – to me it has no value any more. I will never wear jewellery again.»

"Why, you are unhappy!" said Rowena. "Stay with us!"

"No, my lady," said Rebecca calmly. "Farewell. May He who made both Jews and Christians bless you."

She quickly left the room.

When the beautiful Saxon later told her husband about the meeting (когда прекрасная саксонка позже рассказала своему мужу об этой встрече; meeting – собрание, совещание; встреча), it made a deep impression on him (это произвело = ее рассказ произвел глубокое впечатление на него).

Ivanhoe went on to live a long and happy life together with Rowena (Айвенго жил долго и счастливо: «продолжил жить долгой и счастливой жизнью» /вместе/ с Ровеной; to go on – идти дальше; продолжать), for they had always loved each other (потому как они всегда любили друг друга).
