“Leisure Travel Agency, this is Hilary.”

“You sound happy.” My heart fluttered in my chest as I turned in my chair to whisper, “I am. So far, this job rocks. I mean, it’s customer service, but everyone calling in is excited about a vacation, you know. Not all demanding and ‘get me a side of ranch’.”

He chuckled then whispered back, “I just called to make sure your first day was going well.”

“Did you have fun this weekend?”

Jayden had gone on a fishing trip with his Uncle Stephen. He’d made no apologies, as the trip had been preplanned, but I could tell he didn’t want to go. I told him I’d be working doubles, anyway, training my replacement, and sent him off with a promising kiss.

“Caught some rainbow trout. We are having it tonight.”

“I could have another date, sir. You haven’t asked.”

The silence on the other end of the line let me know this may not have been a smart card to play. His voice was ice. “Do you?”

“Of course not,” I said quickly.

“I have to go. Have a good rest of your day.”

“Wait, Jay—” Shit. It was a stupid move. I was so over petty games years ago. I shouldn’t have done that but at the same time, his reaction was pretty uncalled for. He’d called me to make me happy and I’d shit on it.

Crap.

Looking at the clock, I noted it was three-thirty. Suddenly, the rest of my day looked a little bleaker. I snapped out of it quickly, helping Marcy plan a European vacation for a family of six. On my very first day, I’d learned the differences in all kinds of currency, what countries were strict, and which were the best to visit in what season. Marcy was amazing. She was beyond patient and I could tell it had nothing to do with it being my first day, which was a relief. The worst kind of job nightmare was starting a position only to have your new boss go all Exorcist after a few weeks. I’d definitely taken a bite of that pea soup once or twice in my life.

I decided to nip this misunderstanding with Jayden in the bud. I did my usual laps when I got home then showered quickly. It had been almost a week since our last date and I wanted his smile, his kiss, his conversation.

I also wanted to rip his clothes off and worship his baby maker. But hence, I would settle for the first three and keep at it at his pace.

My dress was way too short and showcased my legs, and I’d blown out my hair for a lengthy affect. I wore my only owned pair of stilettos and smelled of vanilla lotion (an aphrodisiac for men according to my witchy sister Sabrina). I knocked on his door, waited and got nothing. I was just about to walk away when it opened.

“Hi,” Randy, the guy I recognized from the pool, greeted me. He washed me with his eyes in a slow, sick way and I shivered, immensely repelled by it. Though Randy was far from an eyesore, he gave me the creeps.

“Hi, umm, is Jayden here?”

“No,” he said as Jayden passed behind him, eyeing me before he went down the hall and into his bedroom, shutting the door. Stunned with what just happened, I looked back to Randy who was clearly busted. It was as if Jayden didn’t care that I’d seen him.

And it was complete bullshit.

I saw golden fur in the corner of the room as I scanned it. Thinking quickly, I whistled for him. Trip plowed his way through Randy’s legs and into me. I grabbed his leash from the floor next to the door and hooked it up to his collar as I glared at Randy.

“Well, you can tell that asshole that I am stealing his dog, and when he’s ready to talk, he can have him back.” I attempted to stalk off, but Trip took off like a bat out of hell, earning his name and making me stumble in my too short skirt. I heard Randy start to laugh hysterically as I begged Trip to slow down. I fell twice on the way back to my apartment, scraping my knees on the concrete while I hung on to Trip for dear life. When I fell the second time, one of my heels snapped. Trip looked back at me as an afterthought and came at me, tongue lashing to lap up my face.

“Dumbass. Seriously, CHILL OUT, TRIP!” After a brief pity party, I made it back to my apartment and let Trip loose to run through the house, hearing an absent crash as I limped to the kitchen with my blood covered and newly purpled knees. Grabbing a plastic baggie, I filled it with ice then caught my reflection in the microwave. My hair was jacked from the humidity and my mascara was smeared from Trip’s heavy petting. Fifteen minutes ago, I’d been ready to rock Jayden’s world. Five minutes ago, he had carelessly told me to kiss his ass.

And for what?

I thought about the stupid stunt I had just pulled and decided it was a bad move to steal his dog. If he wanted nothing to do with me after something as stupid as playing coy, then I needn’t bother. Even as I thought it, I knew it wouldn’t fly. I had a serious taste for Jayden Monroe, and I didn’t want it to be over. Still, if we even had a chance, I would make it clear that his reaction to my teasing wouldn’t fly, either.

I would’ve immediately taken the dog back, but the truth was I was exhausted and hurting from stealing him. It would have to wait until I had at least cared for my slimy knees. I sat in my bathroom, wincing as I ran a rag over my bloody knees when I heard a knock on the door as Trip barked, alerting me. I was suddenly fearful it was Jayden. Shoes still on and one still broken, I limped my way to the door and looked through the peephole to see that, in fact, it was...and he was angry.

I opened the door as Trip stood next to me, happy to see his master.

“What the hell, Hilary!”

“Sorry, it was a bad move,” I said, opening the door.

“You don’t just take a man’s dog,” he scorned, snatching Trip’s leash from my hand.

“Yeah, spoken like a true hypocrite.” Jayden’s eyes covered me as he noticed my broken shoe and torn up knees.

“What happened?”

“Don’t ask. There you go. You have your dog.” My voice was trembling and I couldn’t for the life of me make it stop. Emotion filled my chest as he scrutinized me. I let him take me in, my arms crossed over my chest, before limping to my couch and relieving my feet of my heels. He walked over to the table where I had thrown my wet washcloth and sat on the couch next to me, lifting my legs so my feet were in his lap. He resumed cleaning my knees without a word. I watched him as he gently dabbed up the dirt and then leaned in and blew on them.

“I’m not good at the boy/girl stuff,” he offered after a few minutes.

“You ever thought about trying the man/woman thing?” He refused to look at me, keeping his eyes trained on my knees.

“Clearly, you don’t like to share. I get it. I don’t, either,” I remarked about my comment earlier. “I don’t think it’s worth throwing away a handful of good dates, but you obviously feel differently.”

“I think about you day and night,” he said as his eyes finally drifted to mine with a look so intense if I hadn’t already been sitting, I’d have to. The flutter in my stomach warmed me and spread quickly throughout my limbs.

“I’m trying here, but I’m not an easy guy to get along with.”

“You’ve done a great job of being an asshole today,” I agreed.

“I’m not sure what I want from you, Hilary.” He leaned in and blew on my knees before he placed a soft sweet kiss below both of them. I closed my eyes against the growing fear of what he was about to say.

“If this is going to be some speech about hooking up just for fun, I should warn you now, I’m not the type of girl for that.”

He pulled me into his lap gently to avoid bumping my torn skin.

“I overreacted,” he said in apology and then followed it with actual words. “I’m sorry.”

“I stole your dog,” I said with a smile.

“I have to admit, it was pretty slick,” he said, his hands massaging up and down my legs.

“Don’t shut me out like that. You ruin a perfectly good argument that way,” I said, leaning into him.

“Should we be arguing this early?” he asked with a smile.

“Why not? Emotion shows you care. We’d make a great Fred and Ethel,” I said hoping, he’d catch on to my I Love Lucy comparison. It was my absolute favorite show.

“Let’s shoot for Lucy and Ricky,” he said as his fingers threaded through my moisture-induced afro. “You look like hell.”

“Thanks,” I said quickly as I pumped my hand behind my head twice with ‘hot stuff’ emphasis.

“Clean up and come over, okay? Randy is going out with the screamer and staying with her tonight.”

“When are you going to let me cook for you?”

“When your knees don’t look like mini ET’s.” I chuckled as he leaned in to sip my lips and whispered a low, “I’m sorry. I would have come around.”

“I would have forgiven you, too, but I missed you and I kinda didn’t want to wait any longer.”

He looked at me as if what I said shocked him and I felt my cheeks heat. It had only been a little over two weeks and I was already missing him. He leaned in so sweetly and took my lips again. This time I felt the difference in his kiss. It was filled with emotion and I sighed as I opened for him, his tongue stroking mine so gently I felt my eyes water. He lifted me slightly to get more comfortable and I melted smoothly into him. When he had tasted my mouth in its entirety, he pulled away.

“Bring a bag,” he ordered with hooded eyes.

“A...oh,” I said, my sex yawning and stretching after a long nap. I ran my hands through his silky thick hair and smiled. “What a tantrum.”

“That’s nothing,” he warned.

“I’ll take my chances,” I said, looking into the deep blue eyes outlined in violet.

“I hope you really mean that,” he said, lifting me off his lap. “See you in a bit?”

“Yeah,” I said as he called to Trip, who had taken up residence on my recliner.

When he closed the door, I clutched my hands to my chest.

Too fast, Hilary. This is too fast.

But there was no use in reasoning with my carefree will now. My heart was already slightly attached to the man who had just walked out my door.

Sitting at Jayden’s table a few hours later, I felt the undeniable sexual tension climbing between us as I continued to rattle on nervously. “And then there is Sabrina. She’s the third. I love her, but it seems her sole purpose in life is to resemble a walking identity crisis.” Jayden listened as I rambled on through a delicious dinner of fresh caught rainbow trout with almond butter and sautéed Brussels sprouts—which I’d hated until I’d tasted his.

“Molly is the youngest. She’s by far the most normal of us all, until you piss her off. Then she’s a downright outlaw. I think you would like her,” I muttered on nervously, sipping my amber beer and picking at the label. “And my mother...Lord, you two have so much in common in the kitchen. I should take you to brunch...you know...sometime down the road, or whatever. Anyway, that’s basically it.” I looked up to see a small smile on Jayden’s lips. He had his elbows on the table, his hands folded under his chin, and was leaning toward me. I hadn’t shut up since we sat down and Jayden, besides a question here and there, had only got a word or two in edgewise as he sipped his coffee, which was odd for him. Normally, he spoke a mile a minute.

“What?” I asked as he kept staring, his smile broadening with kept silence. I stood up with Jell-O knees and grabbed his plate. “I’m doing the dishes, and I don’t want any lip. Seriously, I want to pull my weight around here. Even if you have to go behind me because I didn’t use the correct brush or whatever, let me, okay?” I had learned in our short time together that Jayden’s ‘particulars’ were a must for him. But, it also meant he wasn’t letting me share in the weight of the workload.

He gripped my wrist and brought the plate back to the table in front of him then stood next to me. Pulse kicking into overdrive, I stood waiting as he brushed my hair back off my shoulder and he leaned over, gripping the back of my head gently as he whispered, “Are you nervous?”

“Yes,” I answered before he got the words out.

“I want to be inside you, Hilary. I want to see you come again by my fingers, my mouth, my cock.”

I moaned as his teeth gently gripped my lobe. “But I can wait as long as you need me to.”

“Please don’t,” I said, turning my head to look at him. He grabbed my hand, lacing my fingers with his, and walked us to his room. “I’m going to do the dishes and walk Trip. I want you in my bed naked when I get back.”

Oh, Jesus.

He turned me so my back was against the wall as he braced one hand next to my head while the other slowly started lifting my dress until it was over my panties and bunched in his fist. He stood there as his deep blue eyes washed my face in their color. I got lost in them. He leaned in, swiping his tongue over my bottom lip. “I lied when I told you I wasn’t sure what I wanted from you. I want you and tonight I’m asking you to give me what I want and tomorrow, too. And the day after. And the day after that. And the one after that. If that’s too heavy—”

“It was a white lie,” I murmured. “They are harmless.”

He let go of my dress, his hand still beneath it as his fingertips skimmed back and forth over my stomach. My eyes fluttered shut as his hand dipped down, skimming the top of my panties. A whimper escaped me as we stood face to face, my head tilted up as I admired my view. I’d come to know a few sides of Jay. Playful Jayden was adorable. Nervous Jayden was endearing. Affectionate Jayden was beautiful. But this Jayden...this Jayden was molten. I felt the warmth spread in my panties just as his fingertip swiped from the middle of my sex to my pulsing tip. He drew in a deep pull of air as he felt me ready for him. He added another finger, teasing me as he slowly slid them s against my sex. I stood paralyzed as he took my hand, guiding it down to the hard and ready bulge in his pants. I gripped him, and when I got a small amount of my senses back, I pushed his shirt up and dipped into his shorts, surprising him and getting one of my own as I felt his hard thickness in my hand. His impressive dick was pure steel covered with the softest skin I’d ever felt. We locked eyes as I gripped him tighter, strumming my thumb over his silky head and rubbing in the moisture leaking out of him. A gasp followed as his fingers entered me. His eyes still penetrated me as his fingers delved deeper. I moaned, arching my back off the wall as I gripped him tighter, seeing his lips part. He closed his eyes briefly as his soaked fingers ran through my sex, stretching and destroying me.

“Please,” I said, needing to feel him, unable to take any more.

“I have to walk Trip, or I would, baby. Get in there and get naked. I’ll be right there.”

“Ah, Ah,” I moaned out and crumbled as his fingers moved faster, my vision blurring with pleasure before the evidence spilled down my cheeks. Jayden froze as his fingers stilled.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” I said, arching my back further, begging him to resume his pace. “It’s absolutely perfect.” He brought his fingers to his mouth and closed his eyes as he tasted me. I looked down between us as I stroked his thick length, then let my eyes drift back to his, which were still closed as he cleaned his fingers.

In a flash of movement, he stopped my hand and turned me away from him, pulling my dress over my head. I stood in my panties—no bra due to my strapless sundress—as I waited. I wanted him to lose control, but he maintained, and all I could feel was his labored breath on my skin.

“Go,” he ordered as I took a step into the bedroom, turning back around so he saw me bared to him. He cursed, calling Trip’s name as he put distance between us. When he’d reluctantly walked out of sight, I retreated to his bathroom, my hands on either side of the sink as I took in my heated cheeks and swollen mouth. So this is what I looked like turned on to the point of becoming insane. I searched for a tube of toothpaste in his medicine cabinet, seeing a number of prescription bottles. Out of curiosity, I picked one up to study it. Lithium. I’d heard of the drug and knew it was strong. What the hell was he doing with this? I looked at the bottle and saw his name written across it. Jayden Albert Monroe.

I snorted as I put the bottle back, knowing I’d have to ask him about the medication later. There were several. I found a tube of paste and quickly did a quick brush with my finger, having left my overnight bag in the living room. The man had my dress and clearly wanted me a naked captive.

Who was I to argue? I slid my panties down and hung them on his doorknob. It was time for Hilary the Hussy to come out to play. I slid into his made bed, his soft sheets cool on my skin. I was on fire for him and the wait was agony. I didn’t measure the time. I only gauged the pain from the loss of him. Closing my eyes, I briefly imagined the thickness in his pants sliding into me. When I opened them, Jayden was at the foot of the bed slowly pulling the sheet away from me to uncover my body. I resisted the urge to cover myself as his eyes took me in. Once the sheet was at my feet then drifted to the floor, he lifted his shirt over his head as greedy eyes explored my naked form. I was peaking everywhere as he emptied his pockets, docking his iPod on the dresser next to him. Music filled the air as he lost his pants and then paused at his boxers.

“Spread your legs for me,” he whispered as it moved from his lips in a caress over my body. I let my legs fall open as he slid his boxers down, and I drank in his beauty from his Adam’s apple down his chiseled chest and beyond until it landed on his heavy cock. His kiss started at my ankle as he moved in a fluid motion, both hands staking claim on each of my legs in a gentle touch, molding and exploring as he slid to hover above me, his hands never stopping, sliding up my sides until he was cradling my face, his thumbs stroking my cheeks.

“Birth control?”

“For twelve years,” I said breathlessly as he reached into the drawer next to us, pulling out a condom, keeping one hand on my face, his thumb stroking so gently I turned my head to nip it with my teeth and tongue. I looked back to Jayden and shook my head as he began to tear the package. “Are you safe, Jayden?”

“Always,” he answered, puzzled.

“Nothing between us,” I said adamantly. He caught on quickly.

“Are you sure?” I took the condom from him and tossed it aside. “I want to feel you.”

His other hand came back to me as I felt the heat of him between my legs. He leaned in, kissing me so deeply that I melted into the bed cradling my body. His kiss was gentle at first, but quickly turned hungry. I played into it at his pace, tasting, sucking until I was a painful mess of pure need. He slid his hand between us and as soon as I felt his fingers, my body shot off the bed and I cried out to him.

He trailed his kiss from my mouth down to my neck as his fingers stretched me. His lips paused at the divot in my neck, which he filled with his tongue before giving his attention to my peaked nipples. He sucked greedily, his fingers thrusting hard into me as I begged for the rest of him. I grazed my nails along his muscled back and gripped his ass just as he positioned himself at my entrance. The second our eyes connected, he thrust inside me. Jayden’s body tensed as he looked down on me. My eyes rounded in shock at the small amount of discomfort from his size and my long stinted dry spell, which was drowned out quickly and replaced by the intensity of our connection. Jayden looked down at me, lips parted, his breathing labored. His body completely taut, he asked me if I was okay. In reply, I wrapped my legs around him, spreading wider so he could sink in the rest of the way. He immediately started moving as our mouths met in a kiss filled with everything we weren’t saying. Every inch of me was covered in Jayden. My body skyrocketed with each of his movements as I praised him with whispered, heated words and a returned kiss. I gripped him tightly to me as his body slid against mine in perfect rhythm, as if we had always been lovers. Worshipping Jayden with my body, my sex tightened as I exploded around him. Jayden paused only briefly when I came, kissing me soundly before burying his head in my neck and pushing so deep I was screaming his name.

“Fuck, yes, Hilary,” he gritted out as he pushed in even deeper, swiveling and tilting his hips so I felt every hard inch of him. I burst around him again, gripping the back of his head and pulling his hair tight. After a lengthy, tongue-filled, heated kiss, he pulled away, sliding his arms underneath my body and pulling me to sit on his lap. He was still for only a moment and I was so full of him I choked on a sob as I began to move my hips, as he did his beneath me. We were face to face as I bucked my hips and held him tightly to me as the feeling in my chest took over.

“Jayden,” I cried, feeling everything from elation to fear to hope to love. He locked eyes with me and whispered, “I’m right here, baby, let go.”

I looked him right in the eyes and countered, “I will if you will.” He saw my vulnerability then and made a promise. “I already have.” I nodded as he took my mouth again and I fell freely into a feeling of complete and total bliss, giving him everything. He took it and with one last thrust he moaned and grunted out his release, gripping my head and catching my eyes to make sure I saw his were vulnerable as well.

After we’d cleaned up with a quick shower, we lay silent, side by side, wordless, and stroking each other. I explored his chest as he plucked my damp hair away from my face, moving it away in a tender gesture. I was close to drifting off when he finally spoke.

“I want this to work, so I need to be honest with you.”

I froze my wandering hand and tucked it underneath my chin in silent urging for him to go on.

“I’ve always been the reason my relationships never worked. When I told you I have a tendency to be an asshole, it’s more than that, really.”

“How so?”

“Fuck, I hate this,” he groaned, anxiety clear in his features. I leaned in and kissed his lips until I felt him relax a little. He let out a long breath. “I have ADHD.”

“Okay,” I said, expecting more. “And that’s why you’re an asshole?” I was utterly confused. I knew plenty of people with ADHD. I didn’t understand the big deal.

He shook his head as if I hadn’t heard him. “It can be really hard on the women I date.”

And that was the moment I should have really listened to Jayden. Instead, I became distracted by his naked body.

“I can take you,” I said with a smile. He smiled back with a dazzling grin. “I hope so.”

“Jayden, tons of people have ADHD,” I said, leaning in to kiss the chest I had been coveting. I felt his breath come out into my hair as my lips drifted over his pecs, down his torso to the rapidly growing muscle between his legs.

“I just don’t want to screw this up,” he whispered as I stroked him beneath the sheet and he cupped my face, forcing me to look up at him. “I feel for you.” I let his words hit me and basked in them as I slid my body further down the bed.

“I’m about to make you feel a whole lot more.” I smiled before swallowing his thick length and hearing his appreciative moan. I relished in the feel of him, in his gentle hands as they massaged my back while I took him into my mouth, savoring his every whisper of appreciation as his touch spurred me on. When he lifted me from my happy chore, I stared up at him in question.

“I love what you are doing, but I need to feel you again,” he said, pulling me to his chest so I was lying on top of him. He kissed me deeply as his thick tip nudged my entrance. I attempted to lift my body but he protested, shifting me so I was half on, half off him. He looked down at me as he pushed inside. My eyes fluttered shut and I whispered his name like a prayer as he slowly pumped himself into me. The delicious friction had me on edge within minutes as he stared down at me.

“Feels so good,” I said as our heated gaze remained locked and the electric connection buzzed between us. It was undeniable and I wanted so much to express more about the way he made me feel, but knew it was way too soon. Jayden stilled me as I tried to move my hips to meet his thrusts and pulled my hair in his fist so my neck was exposed. He latched onto my throat, still filling me to the brink. I fought my release, intent on coming with him. He pulled away and began to push harder, deeper, as my moans matched his efforts.

“Let me hear you,” he said, sliding his hands underneath my arms and gripping my shoulders tightly so he was grinding into me. No longer able to hold back, I came with his name on my lips. I saw the effect of my orgasm as his hooded eyes slid shut before he turned me on my back, pushing my thighs farther apart and burying himself to the hilt. I gasped at the feeling as he lifted my leg, forcing himself in deeper as I struggled with my breathing, emotion rocking through me.

“Jayden,” I praised through trembling lips as he threw his head back and let go.
