CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE

ELLIE

By the time we pulled up to The Driskill Hotel, I was emotionally exhausted. This had been such a crazy night. Earlier at the club, I corned Ari in the bathroom, and I’d told her I wouldn’t let her leave until she explained what was going on. I was overjoyed when she told me she was pregnant. I’d truly felt happy for her and Jeff, but at the same time, my heart had broken in two. Why am I not getting pregnant? I’d already made an appointment with Dr Wyatt, Ari’s doctor, and was planning on talking to him about it.

Maybe everyone was right. I just needed to push this from my head and not worry about it. If it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. But what if I’ll never be a mother? Maybe God thought I would make a terrible mother since I had no example of a real mom growing up.

I felt the tears building in my eyes. No, I’m not going to go there. I looked over at Gunner as he parked the truck in front of the valet. He jumped out and gave his normal this-is-my-girl speech to the poor kid who just kept looking at the truck and me.

Wait for it...

“Sir, you’re talking about the truck, right?”

Gunner looked over at me and winked. “Both.”

***

When we got up to the room, Gunner opened the door, and lifted me up and carried me in. Then, he oh so gently laid me down on the bed. He leaned down and softly kissed my lips. Before he pulled away, he grabbed my lower lip with his teeth and let out a moan.

“I’m going to go run you a hot bath, Baby.”

I smiled as the thoughts started running through my head. I would never get tired of making love to Gunner in a bed, on the floor, in a bathtub, on a beach. I let out a sigh. Each and every time, he’d made me feel so special.

My smile grew as I thought about the last time we were in this hotel and how he made me feel on our wedding night.

“I hope you’re smiling because you’re thinking of me,” Gunner said in a low Southern drawl.

I felt my body reacting to his voice instantly.

“Yes sir, it most certainly is.”

I sat up and pulled my knees to my chest. Just the sight of him standing in the doorway with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist was enough to drive me insane.

I lifted my eyebrows at him as he gave me that damn panty-melting smile of his. His dimple still gives me butterflies in my stomach. I love him so much.

“Drew…”

“Yeah, baby?”

“I’m gonna need you to take that towel off.”

Gunner let out a small laugh and raised his eyebrows up at me. “Is that so? What are your intentions once I remove the towel, Mrs. Mathews?”

God, I can’t believe how much I want him. I was about to explode. I’d never imagined that loving and wanting someone so much could be this magical and special.

“That, Mr. Mathews, is something for me to know and you to find out,” I said with a wink.

Gunner had been playing with Matthew the other day, every time Gunner had asked Matt a question, every response matt had given was, “That’s for me to know and you to find out, Gunner.” Gunner absolutely adored Matt and laughed every time Matt had said it to him.

Gunner threw his head back and laughed. Then, he slowly walked over to me. He reached out his hand, and I took it as he helped me stand up. My heart was beating a mile a minute and I felt like I could hardly breathe. He reached over to the iPod deck next to the bed and hit play. When I looked down, I saw his iPod in the deck. When did he put that in there?

Faith Hill’s “It Will Be Me” started to play, and I looked back up and smiled at him. My true romancer.

“Dance with me, baby,” he said.

“Always.”

As Gunner took me into his arms, he started to sing along with Faith. It felt like my knees were going to give out, and I could feel his arms tighten around me. I loved this man so much that it hurt my heart in such a good way. I closed my eyes and just listened to his sweet voice sing to me as he moved against my body so closely. We didn’t even have to be making love for it to feel like we were one.

After the song was over, I didn’t even pay attention to what song came on next as Gunner started to lift my shirt over my head. I’d had no idea that he’d planned on staying here, so I was secretly thanking my lucky stars that I’d worn my new beige-and-black lace bra and panties that Ari and I had bought yesterday while shopping for her wedding dress.

He slowly started to take off my shorts, moving them down my body. As he bent over he placed soft kisses along my stomach, then from one hip to the other, and then on my upper thigh. My whole body trembled with his touch.

He stood up, and his eyes traveled up and down my body. Every time he looked at me, it was like he was seeing me for the first time. The passion in his eyes caused me to tremble again.

“God, Ells, you’re perfect. You’re so beautiful and so perfect. I love the way your body reacts to my touch. I could stand here, staring at you for hours, and still never get enough of you.”

Oh my..

He took my hand, leading me into the bathroom.

“Your bath is getting cold.”

Gunner led me into the bathroom and turned me around so that I was facing the mirror. He stood behind me while he unclasped my bra and slowly took it off. He placed kisses all over my back while I watched him in the mirror. Then, his hands moved down my body to remove my panties.

I already felt so close to having an orgasm. How does he make me feel this way when he’s hardly touched me? I closed my eyes as he moved his hands softly back up my body. Then, I felt his body pressed up against mine, and my eyes flew open. My blue eyes captured his in the mirror. We just stared at one another.

“I love you, Ellie, more than life itself.”

“I love you, too, Drew, more than you’ll ever know.”

He turned me around and kissed me with so much passion that every ounce of doubt and worry about a baby just melted away. It was just him and me…together. All we needed was each other, and if we were blessed to have a baby someday, it would just be a bonus.

As Gunner led me over to the bath-tub, he got in first, and then I followed. Just lying there, with my body up against his in the hot water, was the most relaxed I’d been in months.

The way he stroked his hands all over my body just about had me begging him for relief. He slowly moved his hand down between my legs. Holy hell, His finger tips were like magic. Then, he spread open my legs even more as his fingers entered by body. I threw my head back against his chest and let myself go.

I finally came back down from one of the most intense orgasms ever.

Gunner whispered in my ear,

“I’m going to make love to you now, Ellie.”

“Okay.” Jesus. After that one word came out of my mouth, I wanted to die, but it was the only word my brain could think to say.

Gunner helped me out of the bathtub. While he dried me off, he continued laying kisses all over my body. He picked me up and carried me to the bed where we spent one of the most amazing nights of my life making love to each other. I wasn’t sure how he was able to do it, but he gave me two more orgasms. He made love to me so slowly and so beautifully that I found myself praying to God that this night would never end.

***

I woke up to the sun shining on my face. I grabbed a pillow and pulled it over my head. No! I just wanted to sleep in for once. I moaned as I rolled over and reached out for Gunner.

Nothing.

I sat up and looked around as I called out his name. I saw his clothes were gone, so he must have gotten up earlier. I stretched out and could feel every muscle I had used last night. I smiled at how I was a little bit sore. I’d never been on top as much as I was last night…or when Gunner woke me up at 4 a.m for another round.

Just then, I heard a key slide to unlock the door. I pulled up the covers over my chest as I watched the door open.

Gunner walked in, and he smiled as soon as he saw me. “Good morning, baby. How did you sleep?”

Sitting up straight, I purposely let the covers fall away from my chest. The look on his face caused me to let out a small laugh.

“I slept very well, thank you. Better than I have in ages!”

“Good. You’re gonna need your energy for today.”

When I raised my eyebrows at him, he laughed.

“Not for that, but I’m more than ready if you want to skip this yummy breakfast I just brought you.”

Laughing I reached over and grabbed my shirt, and I slipped it over my head. Gunner sat down next to me and pulled out a bowl full of fresh fruit, a strawberry-banana yogurt, and an orange juice. This was my favorite breakfast as of late.

***

I was shocked at how fast I ate everything. I must have been starving.

“So, what’s the plan for today? I see you thought this through” I nodded my head toward the overnight bag he’d brought in and set down on the chair.

“I thought a trip out to Enchanted Rock sounded like fun. Are you up for some hiking and climbing today, babe?”

“Yes! Oh my gosh, I love Enchanted Rock.” I reached over and gave him a hug.

“I already called Jeff and Ari, and they’re down for it as well. At first, I thought it would just be you and me, but since that bastard brother of yours stole my idea, and they’re here as well, it might be fun having them go with us.”

“Sounds perfect. One thing though, can I ask Heather if she’d like to come? I feel so bad for her, Gunner. She’s been through so much, and I’d never seen her cry so much as she did last night. I hate that she keeps calling herself a whore. God, it just tears me up. I knew something was wrong. I just knew it.”

“Of course, ask her. My heart hurts for her. She deserved to have her first time with someone she truly loved.”

“Yeah...and she doesn’t even remember it, Gunner. That’s what makes me so sad. Then Josh came and found out the next day. He must have been so heartbroken. Do you think things will ever be the same between them?”

“I’m not sure, baby. He and Lynda seem to be getting closer and closer. Although, I don’t know how he puts up with her ass. She might be my cousin, but holy shit, she’s demanding and treats him like shit. I never thought Josh would end up with someone like that.”

I shook my head as I looked at Gunner. Shit, I’m so lucky he never gave up on me.

Reaching down into my purse, he pulled out my cell and handed it to me. “Call her, Ells. She needs her friends right now. Then, get dressed. Jeff and Ari are meeting us in the lobby in fifteen minutes.”

After ten minutes of convincing Heather that she needed this, she finally agreed. I hung up and smiled. Being around friends who loved her would be good for her. Hopefully, we can take her mind off of Josh and Jerry-the-asshole.

***

When we pulled into the state park, Gunner saw Jeff’s truck and parked next to it. Ari and Jeff were leaning up against it, and Ari looked so happy. I smiled, knowing that she was going to be a mom soon. June fifteenth was her due date, so it looked like we would be spending our one-year anniversary with our niece or nephew.

When Gunner opened the door, I jumped out of the truck, walked up to Ari and hugged her.

Just then, I heard another voice. Josh? Fuck a duck. Are you kidding me? I pulled away from Ari to see Jeff slapping Josh on the back. I glanced at Gunner to see him staring at me with a panicked look on his face.

Turning around, I grabbed Ari and walked her away from the group.

“What the fuck, Ells. What’s wrong?”

“Oh my god, what is Josh doing here?” I started to look around the parking lot.

Heather would be here any minute; she was only ten minutes behind us the last time I’d talked to her.

“Jeff invited him. Why?”

“I invited Heather to come along. She’s going to freak!”

“Oh Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Ellie, is she okay? I mean, I called her last night, and she told me everything. My heart is breaking for her. I can’t believe she had sex with Jerry-the-fuckwad.”

“Never mind that right now. Is Lynda here?”

“No, she couldn’t make it.”

Just then, I saw Heather pulling up. Ari and I stepped out of the way, so she could park.

“She’s gonna be so pissed at you!” Ari said as she raised her eyebrows up at me.

“Me? Why me? Why not you? Y’all invited Josh.”

“You invited her, and I’m sure she asked if he was going to be here.”

Oh my god. I wanted to kill my BFF so badly at this very moment. “I swear, Ari if you weren’t pregnant, I would.”

Ari let out a laugh. “Oh, come on, bitch, I can take you, pregnant or not!”

Heather got out of the car and smiled at both of us. Her smile quickly faded when she looked between the two of us.

“What’s wrong?”

I looked at Ari and she looked at me. Then, I heard Josh laugh, and Heather looked behind us.

“I’m pregnant!” Ari shouted out.

I just stared at her a what-the-hell look. She glanced at me and shrugged her shoulders.

“What? I panicked, okay?” Ari said with a smile.

Heather seemed confused for a moment.

“Wait…what? You’re pregnant, Ari? Oh my god!” She let out a scream and hugged her.

Ari looked at me over Heather’s shoulder and made a face that made me laugh out loud. Only Ari.

Just then, Josh, Jeff and Gunner walked up. Gunner looked like he was about to puke, Jeff was shocked that Ari had just screamed out to the world that she was pregnant, and Josh couldn’t tear his eyes from Heather.

Heather pulled back away from Ari and smiled at her. “How far along are you?”

“Oh. um, two months.”

“Wow…early on into it.”

“Yeah, well, I wasn’t going to say anything to anyone until after the wedding, but y’all are different. I just got too excited, and I couldn’t hold it in.” Ari shrugged her shoulders and looked at Jeff.

He had a huge smile on his face. My stomach did butterflies, thinking about my brother becoming a daddy. I smiled at him as he grinned and winked back at me.

Heather turned and saw Josh standing there, looking at her. I could tell she was somewhat shocked and mad as hell. She turned to glare at me. I just smiled and shrugged my shoulders.

“So, who wants to hike up a giant ass granite rock?” Gunner said with a smile.

As we all started to head up the trail, Heather grabbed my arm and pulled me back.

“What’s he doing here?” Heather said through gritted teeth.

“I didn’t know! Jeff and Ari invited him.”

“I don’t want to see him, Ellie.”

“Listen, Heather, I know it upsets you to see him just as I’m sure it upsets him to see you, but we’re all friends. You’re going to see him when we all get together sooner or later.”

Heather let out a sigh and looked down the trail. “Where is the bitch girlfriend of his?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

“Fine. I’m only doing this because I need the fresh air and exercise, but I have no intentions of talking to him.”

Heather pushed past me and started to walk up the trail. Gunner stopped and waited for me. By the time I caught up to him, I was fuming mad.

“Sweetheart, what’s wrong?”

“Heather. She’s what’s wrong. She is so messed up in her stupid-ass thinking that she’s pushing away the one and only person she is ever going to love. She’s pissed because he is here, and she won’t talk to him. I mean, I love Heather like a sister, Gunner. Does she even realize that she is the one who keeps hurting him?”

Gunner looked at our friends walking down the trail. Jeff and Josh were in the lead, and Ari and Heather were behind them talking.

“Don’t worry, Ells. Things have a funny way of working themselves out,” Gunner said with a wink.

“I sure as shit hope you’re right.”

CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

JEFF

I opened the truck door and helped Ari into the truck. After I gave her a kiss, she smiled at me and then looked past my shoulder. When I turned around, Josh was standing at Heather’s car, talking to her.

Jesus, those two. I thought Ari and I had acted like idiots, but these two were making us look like love at first sight. I looked back at Ari and leaned into the truck.

“Don’t worry, baby. They’ll be okay.”

Ari gave me a funny look and nodded her head. I shut the door and started to walk around to the driver’s side of my truck.

Gunner and Ellie had already left to head back to the ranch. We’d decided we were all going to go to a barn dance tonight. The couple who were hosting the dance were good friends with Garrett. I was surprised that Heather decided to crash at our house since she’d found out that Josh was staying there also.

The drive back home was dead quiet. My princess had fallen fast asleep with her hands on her stomach. Each time I looked over at her, my heart swelled more and more. For some reason, knowing that our child was growing in her body just turned me the fuck on. When I saw a small gravel dirt road coming up, I smiled. I turned down the road and drove a few miles until I found an open field. While my truck drove over the bumpy field, Ari woke up.

“Holy hell, where the fuck are you going? See, I knew it. I knew if I fell asleep, you’d get lost. I just knew it.”

I started to laugh as I looked over at the love of my life, who was now was carrying the next love of my life. I pulled up under a large Oak tree, turned off the truck and looked at her.

She glanced around and then turned back to me. The smile that spread across her face would have dropped me to my knees if I had been standing up.

“You horny-ass bastard,” she said with a wink. “How far from home are we?”

“Not far, but Josh and Heather will be there, and I want you...now.”

“Oh yeah? How bad do you want me?”

“Pretty fucking bad…enough to turn down a damn gravel road, trespass on someone’s property, and risk getting caught making love to my future wife.”

The next thing I knew, Ari jumped out of the truck and looked at me with a smile that had my stomach knotting up. She lifted up her finger and motioned for me to come toward her.

So, she wants to play, huh? I opened the door, slowly got out, and started to stretch.

“Oh man, this place is perfect for cows or horses. I wonder how many acres it is. Hmm, why the hell isn’t it fenced?”

Ari looked around and then she started to walk over to me. It was everything I could do to act like I was checking out this ranch. When she stopped right before she got to me, I turned to face her.

“Oh damn, you’re good,” she said before she spun around and took off running into the open field.

It didn’t take long for me to catch up to her. I grabbed her and picked her up while she yelled for me to put her down.

As I put her down, she slowly turned around to face me.

“Be careful, babe. I don’t want anything to happen to you or the baby.”

She stared up into my eyes and smiled.

“Take me under that giant-ass tree before we both want some food again!”

I laughed when she jumped up and wrapped her legs around me. I brought her back over toward the truck, showering her with kisses the whole way.

After I slowly let her down, I reached into the backseat of my truck to pull out the quilt that Emma had insisted I keep in the truck at all times. I was beginning to think that her and Garrett were masters of fooling around in other places besides their bed.

Ari threw her head back and laughed. “Damn, I love Emma and Garrett. I bet those two were hot and heavy in their day.”

I laughed and laid the blanket out on the flattest, softest area of grass I could find. I sat down and leaned up against the tree. Ari gave me a crooked smile and came over to sit down on my lap.

“Hmm…this feels familiar,” She said with a wink.

I looked around and then back at her. “It’s a good thing there are no horses around this time. I’d kick your ass in another race.”

The way she laughed caused my dick to get even harder. I gently rolled her off my lap, slowly laying her down on the blanket.

“Ari, I’m gonna make love to you now.”

When she bit down on her lip, I let out a small moan. Son of a bitch, the things this girl does to me.

I took her mouth with mine and never stopped kissing her the whole time we made love.

***

We wrapped ourselves up in the quilt and stayed there for a bit talking. We talked about the wedding, the baby, the wedding some more, and horses. I loved my life so much, and in that moment I thanked God for giving me such a blessing.

Then, I thought about how I was going to tell Ellie that our mother had called again, saying that she wanted us to come visit her so she could apologize. Quickly, I pushed that last thought out of mind.

I kissed Ari’s head and gave her a hug.

“We better go. I’m sure Josh and Heather are probably going out of their fucking minds, wondering why we dared to leave them alone.”

***

We got dressed, jumped back into the truck, and got back on the road. Ari talked nonstop, and I just smiled the whole way. My baby was happy, and that made me happy as hell. Now, I just had to get her to stop talking about going riding. I was scared to death that she would have another accident.

“I’m gonna ride, Jeff, I can’t live my life scared to move, and you shouldn’t want me to.”

“I don’t want you to, baby. It’s just, god Ari, if anything ever happened to you or the baby, I would never forgive myself. If I could, I’d put your ass in a bubble and lock you away for the next seven months.”

“Ha-ha, very funny. It’s going to be fine. I promise to stick to the older mares or Big Roy.”

“Big Roy, just stick with him.”

Ari laughed and grabbed my hand.

“Okay, babe, I’ll only ride Big Roy.”

***

When we pulled up to the house, Heather and Josh were talking, sitting next to each other on the steps. That has to be a good sign. Heather stood up and gave us a total go-to-hell look. Okay...maybe that isn’t such a good sign.

“Where the hell have you two been?” Heather asked.

Ari walked up to her and smiled.

“Sorry, y’all. Jeff had to make a quick pit stop.”

“Yeah, I’m sure he did,” Josh said as he punched Jeff in the arm. “Horny bastard.”

“Oh my god, Josh. Really?” Heather said as she started to follow Ari into the house.

“Dude, am I right?”

I smiled and winked at him.

“See, I know you. It’s about damn time you got here though. I was running out of stuff to talk to Heather about.”

Heather turned around and gave Josh the finger before she walked inside.

“Still nothing?” I asked.

“No, to be honest, I’m not really trying anymore. I mean, I’m with Lynda now, and I’m just trying to get back to being friends with her. That’s all. It doesn’t have to be awkward for any of us, like it was earlier today.”

“Josh, hold on a second.” I grabbed his arm, pulling him aside.

“You have to know that Heather is absolutely devastated about what happened. From what Ari told me, she only slept with Jerry that one time. She has this crazy fucked-up thinking about letting you in and then you leaving her like her parents left her.”

Josh looked down at the ground and then back up to me. His eyes glazed over, and I knew he was fighting back tears.

“I can’t do it, Jeff. When I walked in and saw that guy there, what happened between them hit me hard. I knew in that moment that I couldn’t do it anymore. She’s so worried about me leaving her, but it’s her who left me, Jeff. I need someone in my life that’s going to trust me and not worry all the time if I’m going to cheat or leave her or whatever other fears she might have. I can’t do it. I’m doing most of the business at my dad’s now, and I really think I could make this business grow even more. I need to concentrate on that, and Heather needs to work on finishing school. I think we are on the paths we are meant to be on.”

I looked at him and shook my head. “Do you really believe that load of shit you just spit out, dude?”

Josh sighed and turned to walk into the house. “I have to, Jeff. It’s the only way I can get up every day and move on.”

Ari and Heather were in the kitchen, laughing, and of course, talking about what to wear to tonight’s barn dance. I smiled when I saw Ari leaning up against the counter. She looked beautiful. Her skin looked like it was glowing, and her smile lit up the whole room. I was going to have to keep her pregnant often because she was even more beautiful carrying my child.

Josh and I sat in the living room and talked about the wedding. When I looked up, my breath was taken away. Ari was standing there, wearing a Longhorn T-shirt, blue jean shorts, and a pair of Longhorn cowboy boots. I let my eyes travel up and down her body.

Fuck me. She’s so damn beautiful.

“Those shorts are too short, Ari.” I tried to hide my smile when she raised her eyebrows at me.

“Um, no, they’re not. Sorry, I’m gonna wear the shit out of this stuff until I can’t fit into it anymore.” She gave me a wink and came over to sit on my lap.

I looked into the kitchen and saw Heather getting out a Diet Coke from the fridge. Then, I glanced over at Josh, who must have seen her the same time I did.

I almost felt like I should walk over and shut his mouth for him. Heather had on a white tank top, blue jean shorts, and a pair of pink cowboy boots. How two girls can wear just simple shirts and shorts and look so good was beyond me.

“Close your mouth, Josh, unless you want to catch flies,” Ari said.

Josh snapped his head over to Ari and looked dazed for a moment or two. Just then, his cell phone went off. Ah, the bitch must have some kind of radar, she sensed him looking at Heather.

Josh pulled out his phone and looked at it, frowning

There was no way in hell he was happy with Lynda. I could tell just by his reaction to her call. She was fucking nuts, jealous as hell, and I had a funny feeling she was playing around behind Josh’s back.

He got up and walked outside before he answered it. I looked at Ari who, was also frowning. She stood up when Heather walked into the living room.

“Y’all ready to go?” I am so in the mood to go to a barn dance,” Heather said as she smiled at Ari and me.

“Well then, let’s go. I talked to Gunner a little bit ago, and he and Ellie will just meet us there.”

***

By the time we got to the barn dance, Heather and Josh seemed to be getting along as friends. I even heard them laugh a few times. Ari looked over at me and smiled. I knew what she was thinking, and I was a little less optimistic.

As we walked toward the barn, I saw Garrett and Jack were talking to a couple of older guys, and Emma and Grace were laughing with a group of women. Gunner came walking out of the barn with three beers in his hand while Ellie carried two. Gunner handed me one first and then gave on to Josh. Ellie tried to hand to Heather.

“No, thanks. I’m only drinking Diet Coke tonight,” Heather said.

Ari let out a laugh and looked at Heather.

“You’re such a good friend to only drink soda because I can’t drink!”

Heather smiled just a little. “Not really, sweets. I stopped drinking last summer.”

Josh’s head snapped up to look at Heather, who was now looking down at the ground.

Garrett walked up and slapped Gunner on the back. “I can tell you that if I had all these beautiful women standing around me, I sure as shit wouldn’t be standing out here, all just staring at each other.”

“You heard the man. Take me in there and swing me around that dance floor, Jeff, before I find me another cowboy to do it,” Ari said with a wink.

“Yes, ma’am,” I said as I took Ari’s hand and led her into the barn.

Just as we walked in, Jason Aldean’s “When She Says Baby” started up. I spun Ari around before we took off two-steppin’. I’d never been with a girl who could dance to every kind of music out there. Girl sure as hell knows how to two-step.

I looked over to see Gunner and Ellie laughing as they danced right by us. Gunner gave me a wink and then he leaned down and kissed the shit out of my baby sister. Bastard.

Then, I saw Jack and Grace. I smiled when I thought about how happy Gunner was to have his parents living on the ranch. The plan was for Gunner and Ellie to finish building their house, and then Jack and Grace were going to move into the cabin. Jack seemed so happy and at peace, and I knew he loved working with Gunner on the ranch.

“Do you see Garrett and Emma dancing?” Ari shouted.

I shook my head and looked around. Just as I spotted them, Garrett was spinning Emma around. They looked so damn happy. I glanced down at Ari, and she smiled. I knew she was thinking the same thing I was.

“Do you think they still keep a quilt in their truck?” Ari asked before she started to laugh.

I threw my head back and laughed along with her. “I bet they do, baby. I bet they do!”

***

After two hours of dancing, drinking, and laughing my ass off listening to Garrett and a few other old timers talking, Josh, Gunner, and I were sitting at a table looking out on the dance floor.

Ari, Ells, and Heather were all dancing to Chris Cagle’s “Let There Be Cowgirls.” Damn. My dick was getting hard just watching Ari. I loved the way she threw her head back every time she laughed or the way her damn body moved to the beat of the song. I had to adjust myself and look away. I glanced over at Gunner and had to smile. It was a good thing that bastard was married to my sister, or I’d be kicking his ass right now because of the way he was looking at her.

I looked over at Josh. Poor stupid bastard was just staring at Heather out on the dance floor. I really felt bad for him, but I wasn’t really what to do for those two.

“How are the wedding plans coming along?” Gunner shouted in my ear.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head. Holy hell, the wedding plans. I cringed, just thinking about it.

“Fine.”

Gunner and Josh both started laughing.

“Just fine? Come on, dude. You can give us more than that,” Gunner said.

I let out a sigh and looked around. Ari’s parents weren’t there, but I swore I wouldn’t put it past her dad to have spies follow my ass around.

Josh got up and moved to the other side of me. “What the fuck are you looking around for?” Josh said as he looked around. “Is it top-secret shit?”

“I’m just putting this out there; I wouldn’t put anything past Ari’s dad. I can’t tell you how many times that man has threatened my life. He refuses to let us pay for any part of the wedding because according to him, ‘His baby girl will get the wedding of her dreams.’ I’m responsible for the honeymoon though. If I don’t make it special, he has threatened to cut off my dick.”

Josh and Gunner both laughed again.

“It’s not funny. Fucker scares the shit out of me.”

Josh took a long drink of his beer. “As he should. I swear if I ever have a girl, I’m gonna threaten any man who comes in contact with her until I’m too old to know any better.”
