CHAPTER FORTY THREE
E llie……
I had never in my life seen Ari so mad. Jeff was standing in the water holding her bikini top in his hand laughing his ass off. Just then I heard music and saw someone pulling up. Jeff turned and then swam over to Ari as quickly as he could and started trying to put her top on.
“What the FUCK are you doing? Get the hell away from me and give me my goddamn top back!”
“Stop moving the fuck around Ari and stand still and let me put your top on before Dewey gets here!”
Jefferson sounded panicked. I swam over and took the top out of his hand and gave him a look. I helped Ari put her top on just as Dewey jumped out of his truck with two other guys and two girls.
“Who the fuck are they Gunner? Jeff asked as he looked over at Gunner.
“Hell if I know who they are; but I’m about to find out right now.”
Gunner got out of the river and walked up to Dewey who grabbed his hand and gave it a slap. I couldn’t really understand what they were talking about. I looked over and Ari was walking out of the river and Dewey was staring at her hard. Jeff started to get out and walked up next to Ari, blocking Dewey’s view of her.
I saw Gunner running his hand through his hair. He only does that when something is wrong or he is worried. I started to get out and walked over to Gunner’s truck. Next thing I knew Dewey and his group of friends got back in Dewey’s truck and took off.
“What was that all about?” I asked as Gunner walked back up to us.
“Dewey had been drinking so I told him to take his friends and get them off of the ranch. I also told him if he ever did it again he would be gone. SHIT! I’m going to have to talk to Drake about this.”
“Well, I think I’m about ready to head back to the house. I kind of lost the desire to go swimming and fishing thanks to dickwad here!”
Jeff let out a laugh and looked Ari up and down. I just shook my head. Gunner put his shirt back on over his head and walked over to me handing me my shirt and shorts.
“One More Night” by Maroon 5 came on the radio. “Jesus…..this is Jeff and Ari’s song!” Gunner said with a laugh.
I started to laugh and Jeff and Ari both said “FUCK YOU GUNNER!” at the same time.
“You want to go riding Ells?” Gunner asked as he gave me that crooked smile.
“You mean horseback riding?”
He nodded his head yes and I jumped into his arms.
“YES! Hell yes!” I shouted as Ari and Jeff started to laugh.
The rest of the afternoon was perfect. Well almost perfect because Ari and Jeff argued almost nonstop. When Ari challenged Jeff to a horse race I thought I was going to scream out with joy! While they took off Gunner and I made a bee line down to the south pasture and slowly walked along the river bank while the horses grazed in the field. It was probably the most perfect afternoon in my life. We stopped once and Gunner pushed me up against a tree and kissed the shit out of me. I so wanted to wrap my legs around him for a repeat of last night but the idea of Jefferson or Ari riding up on us had me thinking otherwise.
Speaking of, I could hear the two of them bitching at each other. I sighed loudly and Gunner gave me another kiss.
“Come on sweetheart, let’s get back to the stable and get the horses taken care of.” Gunner said with a wink.
After we washed the horses and put them in their stalls, Gunner and Jefferson gave them all fresh hay. We made our way back up to the ranch house where Emma was making lasagna. OH GOD it smelled heavenly!
Ari and I headed up to clean up and get ready for dinner. Ari was not acting like herself and she was in a mood. She seemed to be happy when we first started to ride the horses but once we got back to the stables she was pissed about something.
“Everything okay?” I asked as she was lying on the bed staring up at the ceiling.
“No….”
“Want to tell me about it before we head to dinner?”
“I hate your brother……”
“This is not new news to me Ari. What did he do? You were so happy when we first started riding.”
Ari sat up and sighed loudly. She ran her hands down her face and picked up the pillow and screamed in it. Shit, this was probably going to be bad.
“Why can he not admit he has feeling for me Ells? He is confusing me so much. One second he is dancing to a beautiful song and telling me how much he cares about me and then next he is pushing me away as hard as he can. I just don’t get it! Is he confused about how he feels? Scared? He treats me like a child one minute and the next second grabs my bikini top from me and he looks at my body like he wants to devour me.
I. Am. So. Fucking. Confused.”
I wish I knew what to say to Ari. I got where Jefferson was coming from with his feelings. I wasn’t sure why he was trying so hard to keep Ari in his life but at the same time he was pushing her away. I really needed to sit down with him and talk to him.
“Ari, are you happy with Jason?”
Ari sat up and looked at me confused. She sat there too long….almost like she was really trying to think long and hard about this question.
“Of course I’m happy with him! I mean he is my…..well he’s my boyfriend…..oh god….I’m so fucked up. I have a boyfriend and I’m pinning over a guy who is not my boyfriend. Jesus Mary and Joseph I’m headed straight to hell!”
I let out a giggle…she probably was! “Ari, if Jefferson said to you right now…be my girlfriend, leave Jason….what would you say.”
“I would say Jason who?!” Ari said as we both busted out laughing! It was clear that Ari had feelings for Jefferson, she always had.
“How long will you wait for Jefferson?” I asked as I raised my eyebrow up at her.
She let out a sigh and fell back on her bed. “I really want to say forever but….” Just then we heard a knock on the door. I hollered for whoever it was to come in.
Gunner poked his head in and said dinner was almost ready. I jumped up because I wanted to help Emma with the salad. Ari slowly sat up and reached her hand out to mine. I laughed as I pulled her up. As I walked by Gunner he slapped my ass and OH MAN! OUCH!
“OWWW! That hurt!” I said with a giggle. Gunner let out laugh.
“We need to get you over that and back in the saddle tomorrow young lady.”
Dinner was amazing. My goodness Gunner’s grandmother sure knew how to cook. All Ari and I did was put together a salad to go along with the lasagna and Gunner gushed over it nonstop! Jefferson talked mostly to Garrett and I noticed he never once looked over at Ari. He was smiling at her when we first came downstairs until her phone beeped. Somehow Ari got a signal and a text message from Jason came through. Honestly, I think she was more excited about getting a signal than the fact that she got a message from Jason. Jefferson didn’t see that though and his smile quickly changed to a frown. Maybe I could ask Gunner to beat some sense into my brother. The thought made me smile and Gunner looked up at me and winked. Cue the butterflies in my stomach.
Tonight the girls cleaned up the dishes while Garrett, Gunner, Jefferson and Drake sat on the porch and talked about the ranch. Gunner had already told his grandparents six months ago that he was planning on moving out to the ranch full time once he graduated from college which was less than a year away. I heard Garrett talking to Emma about it earlier. The thought made my stomach hurt. That meant he would be leaving me. I tried to ask Gunner about it at the dinner table but his face turned white as a ghost and he just changed the subject. I’m not sure why but Emma and Garrett gave each other a serious look before the conversation got changed.
After the dishes were cleaned up we all went outside to sit on the porch. Even though it was damn near close to 100 degrees during the day the nights were wonderful out at the ranch! The breeze that blew was just enough to cool you off, that and a glass of Emma’s sweet tea. Good god she made the best damn sweet tea I had ever had. Jefferson and Garrett seemed to be in a deep conversation as I noticed Gunner standing up against the railing looking out into the dark pasture. I felt a warm sensation run through my body when I thought about what I did to him in the river this afternoon. I felt my face blush and I looked around like everyone might know what my thoughts were. Gunner turned right then and tilted his head and smiled at me.
“Penny for your thoughts?”
I laughed. “I don’t think you really want me to talk about my thoughts out loud Mr. Mathews!”
Gunner looked confused and then I swear I saw him blush. He grabbed me and pulled me to him as he whispered I love you in my ear.
“I love you too.” I would never get tired of saying it to him or hearing it from him.
“Ellie are we going too fast sweetheart? I’ll slow things down if this is moving too fast for you. The last thing I want to do is spook you.”
I hugged him closer to me and leaned up to kiss him. “I love that you worry about me but trust me to let you know if I think we are moving too fast okay.”
“Okay….but really all I want to do it sneak away and go up to your room for a little bit and make out with you!” Gunner said has he wiggled his eyebrows up and down.
I let out a giggle and slapped his arm. “Behave Drew Mathews!”
He leaned down and the heat from his breath against my skin was pure torture. “Fuck it turns me on when you say my name….”
Oh….there went that ache between my legs. I desperately wanted to ease it now that I had a taste of what an orgasm felt like. I made sure to give Ari an earful first thing this morning when we woke up and I told her what happened with Gunner the night before. I thought her scream was going to wake everyone in the house up! She hopped onto my bed and told me to spill….so I did! Turns out miss smarty pants has only ever had one and it was self-induced while she was dreaming about Jefferson. EEWWWW that much I didn’t have to know but it was already out of her mouth before she could take it back.
Gunner was yawning like crazy. I knew he was tired. Emma said he and Jefferson both got up at four am to work on the fence.
“Gunner babe, why don’t you go to bed you’re exhausted.” I said as I looked up into those beautiful blue eyes.
“Will you come with me?”
“Ahh no…..”
“Can I come lay down with you then?” Gunner whispered.
“NO!”
Then I noticed Jefferson stand up and shake Garrett’s hand. He leaned down and kissed Emma goodnight and gave Ari a head nod with a faint goodnight. He walked up to me and kissed me good night has he slapped Gunner on the back.
Then it was like dominos. They all started dropping. Garrett and Emma excused themselves and said they were retiring to their room. Drake said he was going to kick his son Dewey’s ass…Gunner must have told him about this afternoon down by the river. Ari headed up right after Dewey left and all that was left was Gunner and me. I could see he was fighting to stay awake just to be with me. I started to fake yawn and said I was really tired. That was all it took. Gunner jumped up, turned everything off down stairs and we walked up the stairs hand in hand.
In my mind I imagined we were married and there was a little girl with curly hair running up the steps in front of us with Gunner promising to read her a bed time story. The thought made me smile and I glanced over at Gunner. He looked so tired.
What would life be like for him if he worked here full time? Would he always be so tired? God he even looked handsome when he was dead tired. Oh how I loved him.
Gunner walked me to the bedroom door and leaned down to kiss me. He deepened the kiss and it nearly took the breath from my lungs. He pulled away and pushed a piece of hair behind my ear.
“Ellie…….” That was all he said to me but it meant so much more. I could feel it in my heart. I smiled at him and I instantly got lost in his eyes. It was like he was trying to memorize every bit of me to take with him.
He leaned down and gave me a kiss that he pulled away from too damn quick. He turned and headed to his room.
I opened the door and stepped inside and as I closed it I leaned back against the door. My heart was beating so fast I could hear it in my ears…….This man has bewitched me…….I will forever be his…..God I hope he doesn’t get tired of me or fall for someone else. I would be devastated. This felt too perfect, too right….I was just waiting for the floor to fall out from underneath me. It was bound to happen…I just wish I knew when.
You will never be wanted by anyone……
CHAPTER FORTY FOUR
J eff……
Fuck! I could not sleep at all. All I could think about was Ari…..Ari in her bikini…Ari out of her bikini……Ari riding on that damn horse and racing with me….Ari smiling as she was just letting go while riding. It was clear to me she loved being on a horse and she was a damn good rider. We argued most of the damn day and I blamed myself for that. I just couldn’t help it. She was so fucking cute when she was mad. Even though we fought most of the day….the normal conversation we had while we sat along the river letting our horses cool down was probably the best damn twenty minutes of my life. We didn’t fight, didn’t call each other names…we just talked. She told me she wanted to live in the country, on a place not as big as the ranch but with plenty of land for horses. My heart soared. I planned on buying the property that backed up the Mathews ranch. It wasn’t anything like this ranch, only 250 acres but I had been talking to Garrett tonight and the family that owned the small ranch was desperate to sell it. I guess their grandparents owned it and they just wanted it gone so they could keep up their city lives in Austin. There was a small ranch style home on the property, two wells and three tanks. Perfect for horses and a few cattle and Garrett already said I could let my cattle grace on the Mathews ranch as well as the horses. It was a dream come true. I hadn’t even told Gunner about it yet.
On the trip back from the stables I decided I was going to talk to Ari. I needed to see if we could make a go at being something more than friends. Especially now that I knew she wanted the same life I did. I planned on talking to her after dinner. I was going to just tell her how I felt and pray she felt the same way. I dared to let myself get excited.
That was until I saw her bouncing downstairs right before dinner with Ellie and get so excited when a text message from the cheating bastard Jason came through. Her excitement sent a clear signal. She obviously loved him. Fucking prick didn’t deserve Ari….she was way too good for him and he would end up cheating on her just like he did with all the other ones.
I tried to clear my thoughts so I could get to sleep. After tossing and turning damn near all night the clock read 4:30am when my eyes finally closed.
The next morning I woke up to find Garrett and Ari sitting in the kitchen drinking coffee. Where the hell was everyone else?
“Where is everyone?” I asked as I poured a cup of coffee and sat down at the table.
“Emma ran into town to attend a church meeting, Gunner mentioned something about giving Ellie another first and they took off for town. Gramps here…he was just bitching to me about a fence that needs repairing.”
I had to let out a chuckle at Ari’s reference to Gunners grandfather as Gramps…..only Gunner ever called him that.
“What fence needs fixin’ Garrett? I can head out and fix it for you.” I said as Ari quickly shot her head up and looked at me.
“Well it’s on the north side of the ranch…butts up against the property you’re interested in buying.” Garrett said with a wicked smile on his face.
FUCK ME….Ari sat up straighter and gave me a look of pure shock.
“WHAT? You’re buying property out here? Since when did you decide this? Does Ellie know? What about Gunner does he know? What in the world are you going to do out here? I can’t believe you didn’t tell us….”
“For Christ sakes Ari please shut the fuck up!” I said as I shook my head. Goddamn it that girl could just rattle on.
Ari shot me a dirty look and I could tell she wanted to say something back to me but didn’t because Garrett was sitting right there.
“Anyway, back to the fence….I can take the truck and head on over there right now.” I said as I saw Ari still staring at me. I’m sure she had a million questions she wanted to ask me. Thank the fuck I was leaving to mend a fence.
“Oh Jeff that would be great since Gunner took off with Ellie and Drake and the boys ran into town to get feed and run some errands. I don’t want you going alone though….Ari you go with him. It will do you good to get some fresh air.”
Ari and I both looked at Garrett and spoke at the same time.
“WHAT?!”
“No really Garrett I’m perfectly fine heading out there on my own, there is no need for her to come.”
Ari nodded her head in agreement. “Yeah I mean I was just planning on sitting in the porch swing and reading so…”
“Well then that’s perfect. Take your book and read while Jeff fixes the fence. I have a strict rule…no one out in the pastures by themselves.”
“Oh well um….” Ari said as she shrugged her shoulders and looked at me.
Fucking great…just what I needed. I was going to have to listen her go on and on for at least an hour while I fixed the fence.
“I want you to take the jeep though; I’ll go and get it ready while you go change into some working clothes.” If I didn’t know any better I would have sworn he just gave me a wicked grin and then winked at me. What the hell?
I stood up to go change. I looked at what Ari was wearing…..short shorts, a tee shirt and some flip flops.
“Maybe you should at least put on some sneakers Ari.”
She just looked at me, nodded and went up stairs.
Five minutes later I walked out to the jeep that Garrett had already pulled up to the house and had running. That was strange. I heard the front door screen shut and I turned to see Ari walk out in the same clothes but she changed into a pair of black cowboy boots.
Holy fuck….I’d never in my life seen anything so fucking sexy than this girl in a pair of shorts and cowboy boots. I had to take a few steps to ease my growing erection that was pressing into my fucking zipper.
She walked down towards the jeep and smiled at me as she hopped into the passenger seat. Fuck she even had on a cowboy hat….how the hell did I not see the hat. I let my eyes roam down her legs and then back up again. God how I wanted this girl so fucking badly but I needed to get a grip. She has a boyfriend…..she was not meant to be mine.
Garrett gave me a slap on the back and a wink. “I put plenty of water in there for y’all and even a few snacks…..just in case!” Then he laughed as he walked back towards the house. He waved and shouted back to us.
“Y’all have FUN!”
I got in the jeep and looked at Ari who just shrugged her shoulders and put her ear plugs to her iPod in. Yep…this was going to be fun.
I spent the next hour mending a fence that I swear looked like it had been cut in four different places on purpose. Nah….who the fuck would cut the fence on purpose. I was just about finished when I looked up at Ari sitting in the jeep kicked back and reading her book. Fuck she looked hot as hell with those legs propped up. They looked so smooth. I bet they were smooth. Just like her back was so smooth. I was able to get a feel of it when I was desperately trying to get her bikini top back on before fucking Dewey saw her. I wiped the sweat off my face with my t-shirt and started to gather up the tools.
Fuck with it only being nine in the morning it sure as shit was hot out. I brought the tools back over and put them in the back of the jeep. I let the pliers fall hard against the metal floor and Ari jumped out of her seat. She ripped her head phones off and gave me a go to hell look.
“FUCKER! You scared the shit out of me!”
“Sorry….”
I grabbed a water from the cooler and took a long drink. I couldn’t help but notice her watching me drink it. I wiped the sweat one more time off my face before I got in the jeep.
“Finally, it took you fucking long enough to fix a damn fence that should have been fixed thirty minutes ago.”
“Well if you thought you could have fixed it sooner why the fuck didn’t you bring you sweet ass over and help me?”
“Pesh….yeah right. I kind of enjoyed the show.” She said with a wink.
I turned the key over in the ignition and nothing happened. I let it off and tried it again. Nothing…..Strange….I turned it over again….Nothing…..I did this four more times and now Ari was sitting up looking at the ignition, willing it to start.
“Oh no…NO! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOO! Jeff, tell me that this piece of shit is going to start!” Ari practically shouted in my goddamn ear.
“Okay, this piece of shit is going to start.”
Ari shot me a look and jumped out of the jeep.
“DO SOMETHING!”
“Jesus Ari calm the fuck down, it’s not like we are stuck in the middle of nowhere. Garrett knows we’re here and when we don’t come back in the next few minutes he’ll know something is wrong. We need to just be patient and wait for someone to come looking for us.”
I ran my hands through my hair as I watched her pace back and forth with that sweet ass swaying side to side. The thoughts that were running through my head were not good and I needed to stop. I had to reach down and adjust myself more than once.
FUCK! I pulled my phone out to see how long we had been gone, just a little over an hour and a half so if Garrett was the one who noticed the broken fence he would know that I should have been done by now and would be heading back.
After about thirty minutes of Ari pacing back and forth she pulled out her cell phone. She started walking all over the place holding her phone up. What the fuck was she doing?
“Ari, what the hell are you doing?”
“Well, while you’re being a lazy ass just sitting underneath that tree, I’m going to try and get a signal to call someone to come save us!”
“Save us?” I let out a laugh as she turned and shot me the finger.
“YES! Save us! It is getting fucking hot out here and what if we run out of water?! Did you ever think of that Jeff? HUH?” Ari jumped back up on the jeep and tried to get as high as she could.
“Jesus Christ Ari, it’s not like we are going to be stuck out here for days. Stop climbing all over the fucking jeep. You are going to fall and get hurt.”
“Fuck off dickwad! I got a signal last night maybe I will again.”
“Oh yeah, when you got a text from your boyfriend….how is that working out for you Ari, dating a douche bag like Jason Reed.” I said with a smile. I’ve never known that guy to remain faithful to any girl he has ever dated. I couldn’t stand that mother fucker.
“Jealous much Jeff?”
“Hardly…..” It fucking cut me to the bone knowing that that fucker got to hold Ari in his arms. Kiss her endlessly. The thought of him taking her virginity…..it just fucking pissed me off. He didn’t deserve her.
“Oh. My. GOD! I can’t believe this! We are going to have to be out here for hours! NO ONE has come yet and it’s been over two hours! What if they all left! What if they think we decided to go to the river and cool off or you decided to check out your little piece of land you want?! What if Garrett left and didn’t leave a note where we were and Gunner and Ellie come back and they think we’re just riding or …or….or fuck I don’t know……. What would two people who can’t stand to be around each other be doing! FUCK why can’t I get a signal!”
Ari jumped off the jeep and was now pacing and holding her phone up in the air again. I was going to fucking choke her if she didn’t shut the fuck up soon!
“COME ON! Fucking phone….why the fuck do I pay for all that extra shit if I can’t even get a goddamn decent signal?! Maybe we should start walking? Maybe we should just start yelling…yeah…then someone would hear us! Shit sound travels in the country pretty far right……”
OH. MY. GOD! I can’t take it any longer! I need her to shut her up!
“Maybe if we just….”
I jumped up and grabbed her and pushed her up against the jeep…I looked down into those beautiful green eyes of hers and my heart fucking melted.
“Maybe Arianna you need to just shut the fuck up.”
I don’t know why I did it but I kissed her. My god her lips felt like heaven….just like the last kiss she gave me at Brad’s party…the same kiss I had been fucking dreaming about every day since it happened.
I was afraid she would push me away but she opened her mouth more with a small moan and let my tongue start exploring. She deepened the kiss by grabbing my hair and pulling me in closer. Holy fuck….my head was spinning. Before I could stop myself I was pressing her up against the jeep harder. I wanted to crawl into her goddamn body and just stay there forever.
I started to put my hands under her shirt. Her skin was so goddamn soft I couldn’t take it. She moved her hands under my t-shirt and started moving up and down along my back sending jolts through my entire body. I had never in my life experienced such a powerful kiss.
Just when I didn’t think it could get any better she reached in between us and started to move her hand along my erection. I moaned into her mouth and she pressed against me harder. I took my hand and started to unbutton her shorts and was about to slip my hand in her pants.
What the fuck was I doing? I needed to stop….right now before this went any further. I started to pull my hand away but she grabbed it.
She was practically panting when she barely pulled away from my lips….”NO! Please don’t stop Jeff….please….I need this so fucking bad!”
My fucking brain stopped functioning and I put my hands down her shorts and into her panties. I ran one finger through her lips and slowly slid it inside her……FUCK ME.
“Holy fuck you’re so wet Ari.” She moaned as she pushed her hips into my hand and started moving. I slid another and then another finger into her and started moving faster as I kissed her again.
Ari pulled away from my kiss and threw her head back. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. She grabbed my tee shirt and started moving her hips faster.
“OH MY GOD Jeff! OHHH God…..YES! Oh Jeff yes!”
I reached up under her shirt again with my other hand and pushed her bra up. I pulled her shirt up and started to suck on her nipples. She smelled so fucking good….like vanilla….I teased her one nipple with my tongue and then pinched it with my teeth and that is when she started screaming out my name.
I thought I was going to die right there as I heard my name being called out from her beautiful lips. I pulled away from her breast and watched her as she came apart in my arms. I felt her clinching tighter onto my fingers and it was the hottest fucking thing I had ever experienced. It seemed like her orgasm went on forever before she finally brought her head back straight and looked at me. I swear it was like she was taking a part of my soul right then and there. She slowly started to smile at me….. holy shit her smile….if she only knew how that smile could make me do anything she asked of me.
I couldn’t breathe….my heart was beating faster than ever and pounding in my ears. Ari’s breathing was getting back to normal as she just stared into my eyes. I could not stop looking at her. My eyes dropped to her lips as she licked them. Fuck my knees almost gave out on me. I pulled my hand out from her shorts.
What the fuck did I just do?
“Jeff…..I want you more than anything….I want to feel you inside me….please I need you…...”
WHAT? NO! NO! This was all wrong.
“No….no this was a mistake Ari…..this shouldn’t have ever happened.”
